A bust financial adviser has had his period of bankruptcy extended by a decade after failing to disclose a substantial inheritance and the transfer of tens of thousands of euro to his showjumper partner so she could buy a horse.

Asset recovery officials at the Insolvency Service of Ireland (ISI) discovered Steven Monaghan had received an inheritance of €127,000 in October 2021, just eight months before he was adjudicated bankrupt with debts of €482,000.
