Met Éireann forecasts sunshine as temperatures set to hit 18C

Temperatures are set to hit 18 degrees today ahead of cooler weather expected this week with night temperatures dropping below freezing, Met Éireann has said.

Following the warmest day of the year so far on Sunday, the sunny weather will continue on Monday with largely dry but cloudier conditions.

Temperatures on Monday will vary from 12 to even 18 degrees across the country, the national forecaster has said.

It will remain the coolest in the north and mildest in the south, with moderate breezes. Munster and Connacht will enjoy the best of the sunshine today.

Meanwhile, the cloud will extend across Ulster and Leinster this morning and later to the west and south this afternoon.

Tonight will be mainly dry and cloudy for most areas, with some patches of drizzle and mist.

Ulster and Leinster can expect clearer conditions to develop towards the morning.

Temperatures will drop to 3 and 7 degrees, with light breezes.

Tuesday morning will bring a fair amount of cloud and drizzle in Connacht and Munster. Leinster and Ulster will see sunnier weather, extending later to most areas by noon and continuing for the rest of the day.

Temperatures will be slightly colder, ranging from 11 to 16 degrees, with moderate breezes.

Tuesday night will be cold, mainly dry and clear with some patches of mist and fog expected.

Temperatures will drop to between 1 and 5 degrees, with light breezes.

Wednesday will be cooler than previous days and will mark a drop in temperatures with 10 to 13 degrees expected. The day will be mainly dry, with sunny spells, light breezes and a few isolated light showers.

Temperatures on Wednesday night might drop below freezing, ranging from -1 to 3 degrees, as the night will be cold with clear spells and frost in places.

Meanwhile, Thursday night will bring temperatures from -2 to 2 degrees, and Friday night will see -1 to 2 degrees.

This week will turn cooler but will remain mainly dry until next weekend, Met Éireann has said.
