Conan O’Brien will speak Irish during TV drama debut on Ros na Rún tomorrow night.

The American TV host and comedian recorded his Ros na Rún cameo back in January when he visited Ireland to record a travel show as part of his Conan O’Brien Must Go series for HBO Max.

In his travel show, the audience will see Conan O'Brien tracing his family roots back to Galbally in Co Limerick.

The American TV star said that having a chance to work with the Ros na Rún cast and crew was "a delightful highlight of his trip to Ireland".

"I apologise in advance for inadvertently butchering my Mother Tongue,” he added.

Mr O’Brien will play a feisty delivery man who’s having none of Tadhg Ó Direáin’s arrogant nonsense. The new Ros na Rún delivery man will stand his ground and engage in a "war of words" in the iconic Tigh Thaidhg.

Tomorrow's episode will reveal whether publican Tadhg throws delivery man Conan O'Brien out of his pub or not.

Before his cameo was filmed, Mr O'Brien was coached by linguistics coach Kevin Hussey to learn his first lines as Gaeilge.

Mr O'Brien's lines go well beyond "Céad Míle Fáilte", which he was familiar with from his Irish American upbringing in Massachusetts, US.

Conan and his HBO Max production team arrived on set in An Spidéal in the Connemara Gaeltacht on January 9, 2024, where Conan engaged in a tour of the purpose-built TV set, before meeting the team.

“It was thrilling to get the request from Conan O’Brien that he wanted to have a cameo appearance in Season 28," Ros na Rún series producer Marion Ní Loingsigh said.

"Who better to pair the famous US TV personality and comedian with than our very own leading legend Tadhg O’Direán, played by Macdara O Fatharta?

"It was fun to create and film and audiences will see a perfect delivery of Gaeilge by HBO’s Conan O’Brien in what is an abrupt but entertaining exchange with Tadhg,” she said.

Ros na Rún will also feature in HBO Max's Conan O'Brien Must Go, bringing the Irish language to an international audience.

“Two stalwarts of TV on either side of the Atlantic, deeply rooted in their respective Irish heritage and culture, and bringing our beautiful Irish Language and Ros na Rún to a brand new worldwide audience, we could not have had a better start to 2024,” Ms Ní Loingsigh said.

Mr O'Brien is now added to the show's celebrity cameo hall of fame, already including actor Stephen Fry and country music stars Daniel O'Donnell and Nathan Carter.

Ros na Rún starring Conan O'Brien airs tomorrow at 8.30pm.
